Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Review

"Live. Die. Repeat"
Imagine having to live the same day over and over and over again. That is exactly what happens to the protagonist of this film, Major William Cage played by Tom Cruise.
With an alien race, called the Mimics quickly spreading, killing and overtaking the human population across the world, we see everyone under great pressure, with the United Defence Force actively trying to fight back.
We see Cage being demoted from a public affairs officer to Private for objecting to an order. He ends up being tasered, waking up in handcuffs at Heathrow Airport. The film revolves around Cage reliving this very day. Having to take on a much more physical role, with absolutely no combat experience, Cage tackles many struggles, while battling against the Mimics. Along the way he encounters Rita Vrataski (played by Emily Blunt) and the film captures their repeated daily journey in an attempt to defeat the enemy.

This movie is full of action, adventure and sci-fi and despite the repetitiveness of the film which personally got slightly draggy, the overall execution of the film, with great music, visual effects and acting, managed to keep me engaged and curious. The film was rather entertaining and refreshing, which outweighs the slight repetitive/déjà vu nature of the scenes and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a feel-good, action-packed and engaging movie to watch.

RATING: 3.5/5
