Disney 'Beauty and the Beast' (2017) Review

Image
Disney's live-action  Beauty and the Beast  isn't bad. How could it be? It's basically a remake of one of the greatest animated movies of all time. It's when it tries to be different that it stumbles, and those problems drag down the good parts where it gets hard to overlook its flaws, making you wonder if you should just watch the animated version again. The film's music acts as a microcosm of this problem. In almost every song from the original movie, they have added an orchestral dance break. Those breaks keep the songs from reaching a natural climax and, for anyone who knows the original movie — it is extremely distracting. Yes, the musical numbers look great, but just as you're getting into them — bam, a sudden drop in energy for a completely unneeded dance number. This happens in the plot as well. When the movie's remaking the animated version, it's great — especially thanks to the gorgeous visual flair director Bill Condon manages to fill ev...

Train to Busan (2016) Review

Image
Train to Busan… what a movie. A whole lot of action, drama and horror jam-packed into one of the most suspenseful and exciting movies I've ever seen. Based in South Korea, this film takes place in a bullet train en route to Busan from the capital city, Seoul. Passengers on the train struggle to survive as a zombie virus breaks out and spreads through the country. The film surrounds fund manager, workaholic and single father, Seok-woo and his young daughter, Soo-an through their battle to make it out alive. It takes us on a journey of emotions, with the writers and director imaginatively creating an amazing film around an idea so simple and predictable like zombies on a train, completely shocking us viewers, keeping us on edge the whole time through it's ingenious and innovative execution. I really enjoyed watching this movie and would definitely recommend it to others. RATING: 4.5/5 - Lisa References: http://www.impawards.com/intl/south_ko...

Disney 'Pinnochio' (1940) Review

Image
Pinocchio. The story of an older, lonely man who wishes that his hand-carved puppet would come to life. It’s a magical story that I found to be the best movie that we have covered thus far in our quest to watch and review every Disney Animated theatrical release. Pinocchio (1940) Disney (c) The Plot (without the spoilers) Pinocchio begins with a song, after which our narrator introduces himself as Jiminy Cricket and takes us back to the beginning. Our intrepid insect adventurer finds a warm fire in the shop of a woodcarver, full of puppets and beautiful clocks. The woodcarver, Geppetto is putting the finishing touches on a little puppet that he names Pinocchio. After seeing the wishing star, he utters that now famous rhyme and wishes that his little puppet could become a real boy. He is heard by the Blue Fairy and his wish comes true (well....almost). For it to only be answered, Pinocchio must learn to be brave, truthful and unselfish and our narrator Jiminy is appointe...

Benchwarmers (2006) Review

Image
Why this movie ?  To many people this may seem like some random movie that was made for young teenagers and in all fairness that is probably true cause its when i first watched and couldn't stop it watching it over and over it. It's easily one of my favourite movies not cause it got a good story line or thats its interesting its the fact that it is stupid which makes it hilarious and great fun to watch. So thats why i thought it would be a great movie to review.  Story Line The movie is set in a town in Agoura Hills, California, and is about the lives of 3 friends that have completely different personalities but all feel like they don't fit in with the society that they live in.  The main characters are Gus, (Rob Schneider), Richie, (David Spade), and Clark (Jon Heder) all Characters and in there mid 30s and have different standards of life.     Gus is a genuine baseball talent who has been reduced to mowing people's lawns. Why? I think ...

Ghost in the Shell (2017) Review

Image
I went to Reading Cinemas, Rhodes the other week to watch Ghost in the Shell as well as to grab some dinner. Overall it was a nice movie- quite different from any others that I've seen, with interesting cinematography and animations. With this said, it was still personally an average movie. Film Analysis  The movie is an American science fiction action film based on the 1995 Japanese manga of the same name. Based in Japan, it is set in the future, with humans and robots living alongside each other, almost to the point of them being indistinguishable. The music, action and visual effects especially were quite impressive, with the life-like robots and animations looking so real and intriguing. Ghost In The Shell Movie Cover Scarlett Johansson stars as the lead character, the Major. The Major is a " synthetic "full-body prosthesis" augmented-cybernetic human " who is employed by the Japanese National Public Safety Commission as a field co...

Disney 'Toy Story 3' (2010) Review

Image
He was a panda bear. In a fit of childhood creativity, I named him "Panda". Though he was neither particularly big, as many coveted stuffed animals are, nor particularly soft like those extra huggable toys, he was mine and much loved. I cried every time I lost him and took him  everywhere. I share this to illustrate the universal appeal and manipulative genius of the  Toy Story  concept. Who  didn't  have a favourite inanimate companion in childhood? Who doesn't think back to their favourite toy -- be it stuffed animal, plastic monster, or doll -- when watching  Toy Story ? After two joyful funny movies with Andy and toys one could argue that it's time to move on. To its credit  TOY STORY 3  deftly harnesses that argument for its very plot. Andy is 17 and leaving for college. What should he do with his old toys: attic, garbage or donation to the local daycare? Storyline Andy chooses the attic. In an inspired swift bit that's some mir...
